When you first arrive in Kenya, it’s best to take a couple of days to get over your jet lag before jumping into a safari.
Almost everyone I mention this to thinks this is a waste of time.
Until I show them where they’ll be staying.
Giraffe Manor
The Giraffe Manor is a boutique hotel located just outside of Nairobi, Kenya.
The Manor dates back to the 1930’s and feels like it’s straight from the pages of Out of Africa.
Their property is shared with the AFEW Giraffe Conservation Centre and the Rothschild giraffes are free to roam back and forth between the hotel and the Centre.
And they love to visit. Particularly in the mornings and evenings.
It’s not uncommon for them to poke their heads in and snatch some breakfast.
And they don’t even mind if it’s your breakfast.
This is not your typical hotel. It’s more akin to a bed and breakfast, but with all meals and drinks included.
All guests dine together for dinner and afterwards drinks are served around the fire on the outside terrace.
The suite is named after Karen Blixen, the author of Out of Africa, and is furnished with her possessions.
Guests are encouraged to interact with the giraffes.
The Manor provides guests with vegetables and healthy food pellets to feed the animals.
And don’t forget the kisses!

How much does a night at the Giraffe Manor cost?
