The historic Castle of Montalto lies in one of the loveliest and most unspoiled parts of the Chianti area of Tuscany, some 15 miles from Siena. Ii is very centrally located for touring and an excellent home base for sight-seeing, winery visits and exploring hill towns and back roads.
Part of the castle and the villas surrounding it are offered directly by the owner as self-catering vacation rental accommodations. The estate has a swimming pool, a tennis court, a barbeque area, a library, common laundry facilities, private gardens and extensive woods for pleasant walks and jogging. There are beautiful vistas over the farmed fields in the valley to the hills beyond.
Silence and peace provide a restful environment, and a part-time concierge assists our guests. You will enjoy independence and privacy but not be isolated. There are ten comfortable and well served homes to choose from.
Montalto castle is the ideal home base for interspersing quiet days of rest and relaxation with interesting local excursions. For those who are interested in art and culture, who want to sample the local food and world-famous Chianti and Brunello wine, or relax and rejuvenate with a day at a spa, everything is in easy reach in the area surrounding the castle.
The swimming pool is 18×36 ft, tennis court, bocce court, volley ball net, barbeque area, ping-pong table, table soccer, several bicycles, children’s swings, slide and sandbox; common rooms with piano, television, ample library, parlor games, meeting space. Computer room; collection of maps and guide books.

Montalto Castle offers three 1-bedroom villas for rent, each suitable for 1 or 2 people: San Martino, Scuola, Voliera. Contact us for more information. SAN MARTINO is a small romantic apartment on two floors in the tower over the entrance gate of the castle. It is reached via a flight of steps to a gravel terrace shaded by an ancient linden tree with a stone table and chairs for dining al fresco. LA SCUOLA was the old school house of the village. All children, regardless of age, studied together in these two rooms. The cottage is just outside the gate, close to the swimming pool. The rear terrace is nestled in the trees and provides a quiet area for reading, dining or relaxing. LA VOLIERA is our easiest accessed cottage, as it is right off the road and has no steps throughout. It is just outside the walls of the castle, and has a small fenced garden. All homes include: Wireless internet; shared laundry area; shared use of music room, pool and ping-pong.
